Learn about the Cottage

Sinnamons Cottage sits at the foot of Anzac Hill on Spring Street in Maldon. A restored miner’s cottage from the gold rush era, it has been hosting guests for over 12 years.

Two bedrooms, sleeps four. A  two minute walk to Maldon’s main street.

Out the back you will find a working herb garden, fruit trees, and chickens that keep the egg supply going most mornings. In winter the woodfire and spa bath make it hard to leave. In summer the BBQ and outdoor eating area take over.

Maldon is Australia’s first notable town. From the cottage you are minutes from steam trains, gold mines, bushwalks and local wineries. Castlemaine is 15 minutes away, Bendigo 30, Daylesford 40.

Our guests tend to say the same things. The detail, the comfort, the garden, and the feeling of a place that does not try too hard. Read what they have to say.

FAQ’s and How To’s

Using the Woodfire?
– The first golden rule is – the fan must always be in operation whenever the fire is alight
– We will always endeavour to have the fire set with kindling to start on your arrival.
– Only use the fireplace between April and October
– Ensure the air control lever (top right corner with wooden handle) is open to the maximum – slide it to the far right
– Open the door and set the kindling alight
– Turn on the fan by the control on the bottom right and dial it to desired fan strength
– Keep the door ever so slightly ajar until the fire takes hold and give it a few moments to settle
– Slowly and carefully add medium size logs and lock the door.
– As the fire settles and a base of coals is achieved you can then add the larger logs
– Once the fire has settled you can slowly reduce the air lever as this will slow down the rate of the burn without affecting the heat output.
– Always use caution when opening the door to add more wood as smoke and colas might fall out
Using the washing machine?
– Washing powder is provided on the shelf above the washing machine – about half a scoop is ample
– Pull out the drawer on the top left of the washing machine and add the soap powder to the far left slot; slide the drawer back in
– Press the on/off button
– select the desired washing cycle – we recommend ‘Cottons 60’ for a normal wash
– If desired you can reduce the washing time by pressing the ’short’ button
– To unlock the door – Press ‘DOOR’
– Load your items for washing and close the door
– Press ’START”
